ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Eli Manning's sprained elbow will keep the New York Giants quarterback out of Friday's exhibition game with the Jets.
Manning was examined Monday morning by Dr. Russell Warren, the team doctor, who confirmed the quarterback had a sprain and bruise on the inside of his right elbow. Coach Tom Coughlin said Manning's status is ``week to week.''
Manning was hurt Saturday night in the first half of the Giants' 27-21 win over Carolina when Julius Peppers stripped him of the ball, recovered it and returned it for a touchdown. Manning's arm kept going forward after the ball came out and he hit his hand on Peppers' helmet.

He stayed in the game and later threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Amani Toomer. He said the elbow felt sore on Sunday morning. An MRI later in the day revealed the sprain.
``It feels about the same as it did the other night and yesterday,'' Manning said Monday. ``Just some soreness in there, but it's mostly in the muscle so that's a good sign. I'm going to take it week to week and see how it feels.''
Manning said he will not throw this week and will see how the elbow feels next week before attempting to resume practicing.
``When you're playing, you don't feel it,'' he said. ``After it happened I was on the sideline and I threw some balls and I knew I could still throw. I wanted to finish the half, and we had a chance for a two-minute drive so I wanted to get in there and throw the ball.''
Coughlin gave the same ``week to week'' description of the status of Will Peterson, the team's starting left cornerback. Peterson sprained a ligament in his knee during the victory over the Panthers.
